  1. Staying in is the new going out – save money by inviting your friends round.
  2. Fancy eating out? – Check for discount vouchers online for all your favourite places or try new ones instead.
  3. Cooked too much food? – Don’t throw it away look up a recipe to turn it into a completely new dish.
  4. Tempted by the offers whilst out shopping? – Write a list and stick to it alternatively shop online and see exactly how much you are spending before the checkout.
  5. Stick to the speed limit – your vehicle will run more efficiently and use less fuel.
  6. Look at your bank statement – do you have any direct debits or standing orders you do not recognize?
  7. Don’t throw out damaged clothing fix it instead – You can make some great clothes out of a number of old unwanted clothes
  8. Drink more water – It is great for your health and very cheap compared to other drinks available.
  9. Give up smoking, alcohol and any other luxury that might be bad for your health – It is expensive, bad for you and really does costs thousands per year in most cases
  10. Cut back on convenience foods - They are unhealthy for you and contain huge amounts of salt and can cost a lot more money than good healthy food.
  11. Turn off your lights when you don’t need them on – This will help them last longer and will save you money.
  12. Use your local library for films, books and CD’s instead of buying them – They have a great range sometimes better than that of the paid service providers
  13. Visit boot sales and fairs you can get some great prices on many things – There is also the fact that you can find all that you want in one place whilst saving money at the same time
  14. Hide your credit cards or destroy them – Not having them to hand will mean that you cannot use them therefore meaning you need to think twice before buying. Can you afford it?
  15. Look at comparison sites for your car insurance and energy supplier’s rates – If you have not already done it then this can save you hundreds per year.
  16. Make your own bread and cakes (even with the children) – Great fun with the family and it tastes even better than the pre-packaged stuff that you can buy.
  17. Use second hand stores and charity shops – You can pick up some great bargains and for a lot less than the new price tag.
  18. Create a visual reminder of your debt to keep you on your toes – This will remind you and will act as a deterrent to spending more than you can afford
  19. Get rid of your magazine subscriptions – Using the local library is a much better source and it is completely free
  20. Take your own lunch to work instead of buying from the canteen – Much more healthy, more selection and a lot cheaper at the same time.
  21. Check out your local town’s facilities instead of travelling further away – Local events could lead to new friends or even finding something to do that could take your mind off your problems.
  22. Car share to work with colleagues if you can – Great for the environment as there is less pollution and it will cost you less every month than running just one car or using public transport
  23. Pack food before you go on road trips – The service stations in the UK are really expensive and a bottle of juice can even cost £2-00 a time making your own will be healthy and cost a lot less.
  24. Make your own things instead of buying them – involving yourself in activities will keep you busy and keep your mind off things. It is also great to use things that you might have ended up putting in the trash can.
  25. Don’t speed on the roads it costs more – Not only does it cost more but it could lead to prosecution and points on your license.
  26. Save all the coupons you can find and use them – If you could take £10-00 off your shopping per week with coupons it would save you £520-00 per year.
  27. Get your home properly insulated – This will reduce your heating bills and will mean that your house gains a little more value in the process.
  28. Try staying in the UK for your holiday instead of somewhere expensive abroad – Going abroad can be very costly but using the tokens in the sun you could go away for a week for as little as £9-50 per person.
  29. Cancel the cable or sky channels you do not watch – Is it worth having 99 channels and only watching maybe 10 of them. Cost savings could be more than £500-00 per year
  30. Always keep looking ahead – Having a positive attitude is key to your well being and will make you feel great if it is done correctly.
